The School’s History

Noor Academy of Arizona (NAA) began as Phoenix Metro Islamic School (PMIS) in 1998, as a project of the Islamic Community Center (ICC) of Tempe, Arizona. It was the first full-time Islamic elementary school in the Phoenix metropolitan area. PMIS initially served Pre K – 3rd grade; responding to community demand they the school expanded to include grades 4th – 8th. The ICC apartment complex served as the school facility for more than 10 years.

In October 2012, PMIS moved to a newly renovated facility located at 1130 W. 23rd Street, Tempe, Arizona. In 2013 the PMIS changed its name to Noor Academy of Arizona (NAA). NAA provides a curriculum of traditional academic subjects, in addition to Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Qur’an.
